Opportunities From: Shasta Public Libraries

Volunteers get trained by CalVet to help California veterans and their families find information on the resources they need and the benefits they have earned through military service.

Assist with special events and programs that are happening in the library and out in the community. 

Help keep the library collection organized by looking through the shelves and moving misplaced items to where they belong. 

·         Pack seeds – Count or measure out set amounts of seed from either commercial packets or bulk seed donations and place them into our seed library envelopes using the appropriate stick-on labels.

·         Assist with seed packing parties – Come to our periodic seed packing parties, help explain the packing process, answer questions for those that are new, generally monitor to prevent seed mix ups and labeling errors, and of course, help pack seeds!

·         Stamp envelopes – Stamp our seed library envelopes with our logo and contact information so they are ready for packing events.

·         Create labels or variety information sheets – Create seed labels or variety write-ups for our plant binder using templates in MS Publisher. Information for these is drawn from commercial seed packets, websites, and our local planting schedules. Both of these require computer literacy, and preferably some experience using MS Publisher.

·         Stock the seed library – Check the seed cabinet on a prearranged schedule and restock crops and varieties as needed. Keep our back stock of seed envelopes organized

Find and pull books that need to be removed from the collection. 

Help to put books back where they  belong, and keep the library shelves clean and organized.
